Volunteering Hanwell Zoo

Volunteering at Hanwell Zoo

Find out how to get involved

As a community zoo, we thrive through generous volunteers donating their time and talents. We depend on such volunteers to assist with site maintenance and other activities at the zoo. After an initial trial day and interview to ensure we mutually are correct for each other, volunteers assist with horticulture, animal husbandry, site maintenance and many other aspects of the working zoo day.

Volunteers must:

• Be over 18
• Be able to volunteer at least one regular day a week
• Be able to volunteer for a minimum of three months.
• Be able to work unsupervised for up to an hour at a time with hand tools including forks, spades, shovels and rakes.

If you meet these criteria and would like to volunteer with us, we ask that you complete a trial day at the zoo before you are taken on as a volunteer. Trial days run on one day per month, from 8.30-3pm.

Following a successful trial day, you will be put on the rota to work one regular day per week. As volunteer places are in high demand you may have to go on the waiting list for a specific day.
